If a winery and vineyard setting speak to you for your wedding, then Jabulani Wedding Venue in Richmond, ON may be what you’re looking for. It is a casual winery with the potential for upscale.
ABOUT JABULANI WEDDING VENUE
Jabulani is a Zulu word for “happiness” or “rejoice”. It is what owner Tom says he felt when he walked the Richmond property before he purchased it in 2006. He turned what was once fallow fields into a world-class award-winning winery. Jabulani Winery has won 15 international awards and 5 Canadian championships. They added weddings and events to their offerings in 2015 with the addition of “The Barn” to the property.
ABOUT THE GROUNDS
Jabulani is first and foremost a working vineyard and winery with a tasting patio that is open to the public. There are just over 11000 cold climate vines on this 11 acre property. Owners, Tom and Janet live on the property in their log cabin home set back on the property.
There are 3 ceremony locations to choose from at Jabulani Wedding Venue:
- The Pond
- Old Orchard
- Covered Crush Pad (Jabulani Wedding Venue’s most popular ceremony site)
Each location is essentially a blank slate waiting for your creative eye and décor.
Your ceremony start time will be scheduled for after close of the winery’s business hours to the public – typically at 5:30pm.
PRO TIP: Jabulani Wedding Venue provides white plastic lawn chairs for your ceremony setup. You may want to consider chair rentals for a more elevated, unique look.
GETTING READY AND ACCOMMODATIONS
There are no on-site getting ready or overnight accommodations at Jabulani. You’ll have to make arrangements elsewhere.
RECEPTION
“The Barn” is Jabulani Wedding Venue’s production building where grapes are fermented, wine barrels are stored and wines are bottled. It also houses the store where you can purchase award-winning wine.
The Barn can host 120 people indoors and on the tasting patio. You can find a list of favourite caterers familiar with the layout and operations of Jabulani Wedding Venue on the website.
High ceilings, exposed beams, wine barrels and harvest tables lend a rustic feel to this reception space. You can easily elevate the space with creative draping and florals that are so popular with other rustic Ottawa wedding venues right now. You can further transform the space with chair covers or replacing the chairs outright with rentals. It’s a space that can be rustic and casual or upscale and elegant – it’s your choice.
PHOTOGRAPHIC OPPORTUNITIES
There are lots of outdoor opportunities for photos at Jabulani Wedding Venue.
Favourite spots are
- The rows of Vines (careful not to touch or disturb the grapes)
- Old apple orchard
- Pond
- Wildflowers near pond
- Open hay field

PRO TIP: If you plan to do your creative photos on the property before your ceremony, you’ll have to be mindful of winery patrons on the grounds, tours and wine-tastings. You may be stuck for indoor options in case of rain: plan accordingly.
